Hope is “Confident expectancy”
In the Bible, the word “hope” stands for both the act of hoping (Genesis 12:1-3)(Romans 4:18; 1 Cor. 9:7-11) secondly. And the thing hopes for (Colossians 1:3-5; 1 Peter 1:3) says according to His great mercy has to cause us to be born again to “a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”. Who shall we put our hope in? God. Hope does not arise from the individual’s desires or wishes but from God, who is Himself the believer’s hope; David declares, “My hope is in You”. Psalm 39:7)
“Genuine hope is not wishful thinking; but a firm assurance about things that are unseen and still in the future”. The scripture said, “But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it”. Read Romans 8:24, 25., Heb 11:1-7.
Hope distinguishes the Christian from the unbeliever, who has no hope. Ephesians 2:12. What’s the difference between faith and hope; is there a difference? (Faith is totally confident in God) (Hope is confident expectancy). We have faith and we expect God to act. We have our part to have faith in Him: now is His part to act. Our Heavenly Father will never break the covenant. Heb 8:8-12, even when Israel was unfaithful, hope was not lost because of God’s faithfulness and mercy. Read Malachi 3:6, 7; 2 Chronicles 7:14.
God is the hope of His people Israel, Jer 14:8-10, verse 8, Jeremiah is saying, Lord why are you like “a stranger in the land and just pitch your tent for the night. The prophet used the words “Wayfaring man” as a traveler just tarrying for a night. Read Judges 19:17-21; Isaiah 33:7,8.
God does His part God is the source and object of hope, Rom 15:13; 1 Peter 1:18-21. Christ is our hope 1 Timothy 1:1. Jesus is the Saviour the source of life, St John 6:35, the emphasis in this verse is more on the spiritual life. We live with hope because of His promises, 2 Cor 1:20.
My friends: what is our main hope for the future? “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”. Titus 2:13.
The assurance of hope, and living hope. I Peter 1:3; 1 Cor 15:14-19.The hope of the Holy Spirit, Rom 8:16. Obey the Spirit leading and putting God first in our everyday life Matthew 6:33.
